Scholar-in-Residence Weekend with Tina Wasserman

March 16-18--Jewish food and history chef Tina Wasserman will be our Scholar-in-Residence for this weekend.  There will be opportunities to hear her speak, participate in hands-on cooking classes, and enjoy a delicious Shabbat dinner featuring her recipies.  Tina is the best-selling author of Entree to Judaism:  A Culinary Exploration of theTina Wasserman Jewish Diaspora and Entree to Judaism for Families:  Cooking and Kitchen Conversations with Children.  An award-winning cooking instructor specializing in contemporary Jewish cuisine, Tina was the food columnist for Reform Judaism magazine for 10 years, and is presently the food editor and writer for ReformJudaism.org.  In 1994, she was elected to Les Dames d'Escoffier, an international culinary society that honors select women in the food and beverage industry.

Friday, March 16
Cooking with Tina 10:00 am
We will be preparing recipes from Tina’s cookbook to be served at our Shabbat dinner.

Saturday, March 17
Morning Service 9:30 am
Sisterhood Shabbat
11:30 am During the service Tina will speak about the history of the Jews in the orange and chocolate trade.

Sisterhood Shabbat Kiddush Lunch 12:00 pm
Sisterhood will be sponsoring the Kiddush lunch in honor of Sisterhood Shabbat. Lunch will feature recipes prepared from Tina’s cookbook. The deluxe noodle pudding has been featured several times in the New York Times.
There is no charge to attend this event and reservations are not required.

Wine & Dessert Party 7:45 pm
“A sweet exploration of Jewish culinary tradition.” Come and learn how to prepare some of Tina’s recipes for dessert. Several are for Passover. Just a few of the desserts we will be making are as follows:

Hadgi Badah Macaroons
Moroccan Sweet Couscous
Chocolate Challah Babka Bread Pudding

Sunday, March 18Entree to Judaism for Families
“Passover Lunch Box” 10:30 am
Come with your children and learn how to prepare some delicious treats for Passover. This is a cooking class for parents and children. Major funding provided by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.
