Paul left his beloved New York City and Franklin School to go to college at Brandeis University, where he met Esta. Together, Paul graduated Tufts Medical School and Esta became a teacher.
As they wondered where they might ultimately settle down, Paul wanted to move to the country, while Esta, from rural Connecticut, wanted to move to the city. Happily they discovered Springfield, which to Paul was country, and to Esta, city.
After spending three years here at Baystate Medical Center for Paul’s medical residency, they moved to the Bronx for Paul’s GI Fellowship at The Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Eager to return to Springfield, Paul then opened his medical practice here.
By this time, Melanie had a deep Bronx accent and Josh had just been born. Melanie is now a clinical psychologist (child/adolescent) who practices at Mass. General Hospital in Boston, and Josh is a Critical Care/Pulmonary physician at the University of Vermont hospital (Fletcher Allen) in Burlington, VT.
Paul and Esta started attending the Melton School a number of years ago, and soon transitioned to Temple Beth El. Having found their second home and second family, they have become increasingly involved with our shul, perhaps now the only shul with a "minyanmom".
Paul says, "I am honored to have the opportunity to lead our congregation, a community that offers so much for all of us. I hope to fulfill your trust in me as I try my best, with the help of all of you, to see Beth El grow and thrive in the future."
